More than 500 residents in Rochelle have signed up for the Nixle alert system in case of an emergency in the community. This would include such things as a tornado, a winter storm, along with a hazardous spill or water boil order.
During yesterday's program "Let The People Know", Rochelle Emergency Management Coordinator Terry Inman talked about the reasons why the city got involved with the alert system. He said that the city already had a program in place, but now more people will be informed in case of an emergency in the community
Local residents can register by texting the zip code of 61068 and then 888777. They can also visit the City of Rochelle website and click emergency alert under the police department.
The Nixle alert system also works for computers or lap tops.
There is no cost to the city or local residents for this service.
"Let The People Know' is heard on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and rebroadcast Saturday morning at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday morning at 6 on "The Coyote".
