Village officials in Hillcrest approved a new 7-year garbage contract last night with Northern Illinois Disposal. It's the first new agreement between the village and company in 28 years.
Residents will see a sharp increase in their bill beginning in March. They currently pay just over 7 dollars a month. That figure will to to nearly 13 dollars a month.
In years 2 through 4, the increase would be a dollar per month each year. The final 3 years, the increase would be determined by the consumer price index formula.
A recycling program will be part of the agreement as containers will be delivered to the home.
The board approved a 3-year agreement for insurance coverage along with amending the employee vacation policy.
No action was taken on the intergovernmental agreement between Hillcrest and Whiterock Township. At the present time, the township plows Bethel and Lind Roads in the winter as the village pays for the work done.
Hillcrest is also in the process of applying for an Illinois EPA Loan for additional sanitary sewer work. The project includes River and Wayne Roads along with Roy and Linda Avenues.
Estimated costs for the work is around 1.9 million dollars.
The sanitary sewer project for River Road and Ramona Avenue will resume this spring when the weather improves.
PharmaCannis has also received their temporary occupancy permit from the village for their cultivating medical cannabis facility at the corner of Twombly and Dement Roads.
