A lockdown is no longer in effect at Cook County Jail. The order was imposed yesterday when 142 of the facility's staff called in sick. That action caused a safety problem.
Jail officials say this situation is common after a snowfall or a holiday. Last year, the Super Bowl and a snowstorm happened at the same time and 36-percent of Cook County correctional officers were no shows to work.
