City officials approve TIF District in Rochelle

The City of Rochelle is moving forward in having a tax increment financing district for the downtown area along with the south side of the community.

Ordinances were approved last night in a 5-0 vote. City Manager David Plyman said that the goal is to attract new businesses in both areas in the future.

The engineering agreement of $54,000 was approved for the water main extension project. The work will be done on 20th Street between 8th and 10th Avenues along with 8th Avenue from 10th to 15th Streets. The project is expected to begin this spring.

The special use permit involving outdoor storage was taken off the agenda for a future council meeting. Keith Scott of Rochelle has purchased the former Pizzu Hut facility. He wants to use the area west of the building for vehicle storage associated with his towing business.

The Rochelle Planning and Zoning Commission recommended that the city deny the special use permit.

Skid load generators were also approved for RMU which will help in peak demands during the summer weather.
