Illinois taxpayers will have to wait until after March 1st to get income tax refunds, but the Department of Revenue says the state budget impasse has nothing to do with it. The department says the delay is caused by the state's continuing efforts to crack down on fraud and identity theft by people filing fake returns in another person's name.
Revenue Director Connie Beard says fraud prevention measures put in place last year have saved nearly five-million-dollars that would otherwise have been paid out for false tax returns.
