Fatal crash remains under investigation in DeKalb County (Updated)

Winnebago County officials have released the name of a Belvidere man who was killed on Friday afternoon in a DeKalb County 3-vehicle crash.

64-year old Edward Schubert suffered fatal injuries in the accident which took place at the intersection of Genoa and Melms Roads.

Reports indicate that Schubert was traveling northbound on Genoa Road and lost control of his car on some ice.

The vehicle then entered the southbound lane and struck a car driven by 36-year old Jamie Keifer of Cortland.

Schubert's car then traveled back into the northbound lane of Genoa Road and struck a cargo van.

The Belvidere man was pronounced dead at a Rockford Hospital. Keifer and a 4-year old girl in the car received treatment of their injuries also at a Rockford Hospital.

The driver of the van, 36-year old Jasen Chamberlain of Genoa, refused medical treatment.

The accident remains under investigation by DeKalb County Sheriff's Police.
