A 64-year old Belvidere man is dead following a 3-vehicle crash in DeKalb County yesterday afternoon. The accident took place at the intersection of Genoa and Melms Roads at around 3:30.
Reports indicate that the Belvidere man was traveling northbound on Genoa Road and lost control of the car on some ice.
The vehicle then entered the southbound lane and struck a car driven by 36-year old Jamie Keifer of Cortland.
The vehicle then traveled back into the northbound lane of Genoa Road and struck a cargo van driven by 36-year old Jasen Chamberlain of Genoa.
The Belvidere man, whose name is not being released at this time until family members are notified of the incident, was flown from the scene by Lifeline helicopter. He died a short time later at a Rockford hospital.
Keifer was also flown from the scene by Lifeline helicopter to a Rockford hospital for treatment of his serious injuries. Chamberlain was not hurt in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department along with the Winnebago County Coroner's office.
