Numerous new laws begin in Illinois today

Over 200 new laws will go into effect in Illinois today.

Individuals with two or more DUI convictions will be required to install a Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device as a condition of a Restricted Driving Permit. Another new law will allow prosecutors to not wait as long for lab tests to show if a synthetic drug was illegal. Individuals convicted of making false or prank 911 calls will be responsible for reimbursing the costs incurred by the responding emergency agency. Another new law will require police officers who wear a body camera to keep it on when conducting any law enforcement activities. The age for youth hunting licenses will be raised from 16 to 18.

Child-Care employees at facilities caring for children six and younger, will be required to provide proof of two doses of the Measles Mumps and Rubella Vaccine or provide proof of immunity. They will also be required to provide proof of having a tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis vaccine.

Pet owners will see some new laws starting today.  Many of the more than 200 new laws in Illinois deal with pets.  It is now a misdemeanor to leave your pets outside in the cold or extreme heat.  And animal shelters also must now scan for a pet's microchip within 24 hours.
