Almost half of students graduating high school in Illinois are in need of remedial classes in community college, according to a new report from the Illinois State Board of Education.
The report uses data from the 2013 graduating class who went on to community college. Students needed help in math more than any other subject, with reading and communication the next problem areas. An ISBE spokesperson says the new PARCC exam will help identify students who aren't ready for college coursework before they graduate.
