Voters in the Village of Hillcrest will decide during the March 15th Primary Election if they want to see their sales tax increase.
During a special meeting last night, village officials approved a motion to place the issue on the primary ballot. They are asking for the sales tax to increase from 6.25% to 6.75%.
If approved by the voters, the village is looking at around $50,000 in additional money a year.
The funds will be used for infrastructure projects in Hillcrest. Board President Steve Dodson said that they money would be used to upgrade streets, the sanitary sewer project, and the water department.
The sales tax rate in Rochelle is currently at 7%.
The last time village officials put this proposal on the ballot was November 4th, 2014 as they wanted to increase the sales tax rate to 6.75%. It was voted down 61% to 39% by residents in the village.
