The Ogle County board heard a presentation last night dealing with the possibility of constructing a new jail in the near future.
At the present time, information is being gathered on the size and cost of the project. Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle said that the new jail would be for the next 50 years at a cost between 15 to 20 million dollars depending on the number of beds.
The capacity at the Ogle County jail right now is 108 prisoners. The county averages 95 to 100 inmates per day as that figure at times has rose to over 120 criminals.
The number of federal prisoners has gone down compared to several years ago.
1 option for the county would have a jail with 250 beds for the next 50 years.
No date has been set on when construction will begin. They are also looking at 3 to 4 sites.
The board approved the Lee Ogle enterprise zone. The proposal deals with commercial, retail, and industrial projects in Ogle and Lee Counties along with Rochelle and Dixon. It totals 96 hundred acres.
The 12 enterprise zones will be announced next September. The Ogle County board was the last taxing body to approve the proposal.
The environmental fee schedule for the Health Department was also approved last night with a slight increase in numbers.
