The Rochelle elementary board began the process last night of possibly issuing 2 million dollars in working cash bonds in the future for the district.
Superintendent Todd Prusator said that they are concerned that lawmakers will pass a bill that would freeze property taxes for a 2-year period. The district would issue the bonds in March of next year if they go that route.
The tax levy was approved for the district last night as it saw an increase of 8.6 percent. Prusator said that this figure may eventually drop to around 2.3 percent following the appeal process by area businesses. He said that the tax rate will remain about the same for the district.
The board heard an update report on a possible consolidation feasibility study. The Rochelle elementary board along with officials in the Eswood and Kings school districts would be in favor of the study. Eswood and Kings boards also said that they were not in favor of any consolidation at this time.
The Creston and Steward school districts were not in favor of the study while the RTHS board has yet to make a decision. The study would cost around $15,000 as the Rochelle districts would pay for the information.
The district also has new guidelines for students with allergies. Children will no long be able to each homemade baked goods in the classroom.
Prusator said that the new regulations have already started in the district.
The school district also received a certificate recently at the raising student achievement conference in St. Charles as they were recognized for it's curriculum and developing of teacher leadership.
