The Needy Families Food and Toy drive has started in Rochelle for this holiday season.
Chairperson Jean Tess said they are accepting donations of canned goods and non-perishable food items from now through Monday, December 14th.
They will also take any new toys or children's books along with cash donations or gift certificates to local stores. They will use the money to purchase meat, dairy, and fresh fruits and vegetables.
The donations can be dropped off at the Rochelle Fire Department between 9am and 5pm each day.
Tess said that right now, they have around 100 families for the holiday season and only adequate food supplies for about 20.
The food and toys will be sorted and packed during the week of December 14th. They will be delivered to area homes on the evening of December 17th and the morning of December 19th.
The deliveries will be done by off-duty firemen and RTHS students.
