7 candidates for the Rochelle Fire Chief's position

Rochelle City Manager David Plyman hopes to name a new Fire Chief for the community by the end of the month.

Plyman mentioned during yesterday's program "Let The People Know" that he plans to complete the hiring process by the holidays.

He said that the city received 7 applications for the position. 2 of the candidates are from the Rochelle Fire Department and 1 person is from out of state.

Plyman plans to put together a team to handle the interviews. He said 3 to 4 candidates will be interviewed before a final decision is made.

The city is looking for a replacement for Brian Johnson who retired on September 25th after 34 years with the department. He was named Fire Chief in 2009.

Lieutenant Dave Sawlsville has been named interim Fire Chief. He has been with the department for 34 years, 28 years as a full-time fireman.

The Rochelle Fire Department has a Chief along with 3 Lieutenants, 9 full-time firemen, and 26 paid-on-call firefighters.

"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and rebroadcast Saturday morning at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday morning at 6 on "The Coyote".
