A Belvidere man suffered fatal injuries after the 2007 Chevy pick-up truck he was driving struck a utility pole early yesterday morning near Creston.
Pronounced dead at the scene was 35-year old Chance Newby.
Reports indicate that Newby was traveling eastbound in the 19,000 block of East Ritchie Road, just west of Woodlawn Road. The truck traveled off the north side of the road. The vehicle then traveled over 300 feet in the ditch before striking the utility pole which snapped in half and wires came down on the ground.
Electrical power was lost for a period of time yesterday morning in Creston.
The pick-up truck overturned and came to rest in the ditch on the passenger side. Newby was extricated from the vehicle by fire department personnel from Rochelle and Creston and pronounced dead by the Ogle County Coroner.
The engine of the pick-up truck was cold when emergency personnel arrived at the location as the crash may have occurred earlier in the morning. Police were informed about the incident a short time after 4.
There was extensive damage done to the truck. The accident remains under investigation by Ogle County Sheriff's Police.
