The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development says it will investigate the city of Rockford for possible violations. The department says it is investigating Rockford because of recent actions taken by the city council in regards to a new housing development in New Towne.
The department believes the city may have violated some terms of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. If HUD finds that the city did violate the acts, it could lose funding and be investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice.
