A 76-year old Rochelle woman died from blunt force trauma to her head and chest after being struck by a train last Friday evening in the Hub City.
Madeline Bergschneider suffered fatal injuries from the incident.
The accident took place on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks on Washington Street in Rochelle, just south of the intersection of Lincoln Highway and Lincoln Avenue.
Officials say that Bergschneider was walking down the middle of the tracks as the train was traveling 25 miles per hour. The horn from the train was blown prior to the incident.
Police say that Bergschneider was deaf and that a walker was found near the tracks. An autopsy was performed on the body yesterday in Oregon.
It took 4 days for local authorities to find a family member of Bergschneider.
