Rochelle teen back in Ogle County court today following fatal crash this past summer

A Rochelle teen was back in Ogle County court today for a status hearing after being charged with the Class 4 felony offense of aggravated reckless driving.

The arrest stems from a crash this past summer which claimed the life of a local college student.

An Ogle County grand jury indicted 19-year old Emily Jahnke on the felony offense. 19-year old Anna Speed of Kings suffered fatal injuries from the accident.

The crash took place the night of June 10th northeast of Creston in the 18,000 block of East Gillis Road.

A 2004 Jeep driven by Jahnke was traveling eastbound and left the north side of the road. The vehicle then struck a utility pole.

Speed was pronounced dead at the scene as she was a back passenger in the jeep.

Jahnke along with a front passenger in the vehicle, 19-year old Anna Craven of Rochelle, were ejected from the jeep. Both were treated for injuries at area hospitals.

In court today, evidence in the case was given to Jahnke's attorney from the state. She returns to court on January 5th in Oregon for another status hearing.

Jahnke has posted of 10 percent of a $10,000 bond. She is currently a college student in Kentucky.

No other charges have been filed at this time by Ogle County officials.
