The majority work for the quiet zone project in Rochelle dealing with the train horn issue will be completed next year.
The project started in September, but was delayed several times due to the railroads as they needed flaggers while the work was being done. Rochelle City Engineer Sam Tesreau said that the work will be completed in 2016. He said that 4 crossings have been done so far out of the 12. 2 are for pedestrians near the overpass.
The city averages between 80 to 100 trains a day on the 2 railroads. Tesreau believes there will be a difference for residents once the quiet zone project is completed. He said that 90 percent of the train horn noise should be eliminated.
