Don't expect any work on Illinois 251 in Rochelle in the near future.
IDOT officials have talked for several years of expanding the highway between Route 38 and Fairview Drive. During yesterday's program "Let The People Know", Rochelle City Engineer Sam Tesreau said that the work is not expected within the next year. He said the project has been placed on IDOT's 5-year plan.
Tesreau said that the project would include just south of the Route 38 and then northbound to Fairview Drive. State officials say that the reason for the delay is the lack of funds for the construction work.
The city has been working on this plan since 2004. It includes sidewalks on both sides of the highway along with 5-lane sections.
The city did received 1.7 million dollars last week for the South Main Street project. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2017 or 2018.
"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and rebroadcast Saturday morning at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday morning at 6 on "The Coyote".
