Rochelle park officials vote to keep golf course open

Park officials in Rochelle last night voted in favor of keeping the "Fairways" golf course open during the next 10 years.

The board approved a proposal in which they would spend $75,000 each year during the 10-year period. The city would also pay the same amount if they approve the proposal.

"Fairways" would be managed by the Flagg-Rochelle Park Foundation.

The Rochelle City Council has yet to vote on this proposal for the golf course.

Following an executive session, the board voted 5-2 in rejecting the latest proposal on a contract for the 4 union workers. They have been without an agreement since March 1st of this year.

Park officials also tabled the Dekhockey program. The rink would be located at Cooper Park as the district's cost would be around $120,000.  PArk District Executive Director Eric Christensen said that the board wanted more information before a decision is made.

The board approved the tax levy for the district last night along with the enterprise zone proposal for Ogle County.

Renovation work will be done at the park district office at a cost not to exceed $15,000.

Up to $20,000 will be spent involving the 50th anniversary next year for the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District. They plan to have an event on July 4th at Cooper and Atwood Parks.

The park district also plans to donate around $10,000 for the fireworks show.
