Hope of Ogle County hold awareness event

Hope of Ogle County held an awareness event yesterday in Rochelle informing area residents that their domestic violence services may be cut soon due to the lack of a state budget.

538 individual shoes were placed in the grass at City Hall which totals the number of clients the organization had this past fiscal year. This included 345 women, 9 men, and 184 children.

Hope of Ogle County Executive Director Ruth Carter said that Hope Chest located in downtown Rochelle has enabled them for the present time to keep the same programs for area residents. She said cuts will be made during the 1st part of 2016 if they do not receive state funds due to the lack of a budget.

Guest speakers yesterday included, Hope of Ogle County Board President Don Romes, Circuit Judge Robert Hanson, Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson, Rochelle Police Chief Eric Higby, and State Representative Bob Pritchard .

Area residents can donate money to www.hopedv.org.

Hope of Ogle County has been helping victims of domestic violence since 1982.
