Village officials in Creston are working out a few problems with the water meter program at homes before residents are charge by the usage per month.
Over 200 bills were sent out to homes, duplexes, and apartment buildings dealing with water used over the past month. At the present time, the monthly bill is $25.50.
Depending on the usage per home, that figure may be doubled for some village homes.
Board President Tom Byro said that the results have been good so far from the meters.
Creston plans to start charging for water usage some time during the 1st part of 2016.
The tax levy was introduced last night. The figure will be approved during the December meeting.
Negotiations continue on the 9,670 square feet of property along Depot Street involving Hueber LLC. The board rejected the proposed price for the land from the company last night.
Byro said that village officials are not going to give away the land for a low figure.
The property was appraised at $11,000 for industrial use and $9,000 if zoned for residential in the future.
The appraisal cost $1,200.
The new Nicor Gas contract is also currently being reviewed by village officials. The last agreement was reached around 50 years ago.
