Residents in Rochelle have recently seen many trees in the community with red markings that are located in the city parkway.
Unfortunately, many of the ash trees have died due to the emerald ash borer and will have to be cut down.
The city has been hit hard during the past 2 years from the emerald ash borer said Street and Cemetery Superintendent Tim Isley. He said that more than 200 trees have died
The emerald ash borer was introduced from China more than a decade ago and has since wiped out millions of ash trees in the upper midwest and Pennsylvania.
Isley said that they plan to replace the majority of trees that have died.
The state agriculture department has also lifted the ban on transporting firewood that's been in places as a means of slowing the spread of the emerald ash borer.
