The latest information Rochelle Middle School teacher and RTHS coach Vic Worthington has is that he is in 2nd place for his region involving the $100,000 grant from Farmers Insurance.
The top 2 school districts in each region receive the money from the insurance company.
Vic was informed that after voting closed on Saturday online, the company will spend this month going through the votes to make sure there are no problems. The official announcement on the grant winners will be made in December.
Worthington was 1 of 15 finalists for the Dream Big Teacher Challenge grant.
If the Rochelle elementary school district won the grant, it would be used for technology, science, engineering and mathematics.
Worthington said that a teacher in Atlanta, Georgia is currently in 1st place in the region followed by Rochelle. An instructor from Rhode Island is in 3rd place.
Vic is the only teacher in Illinois on the list of the 15 finalists.
