Rochelle man arrested after money was stolen from restaurant during April's tornado

A Rochelle man has been arrested after money was taken from a business the evening the tornado hit the area last spring.

67-year old Michael McDonald  has been charged with the Class 3 felony offense of theft over $500.

Around $1,000 was stolen from the former Grubsteakers Restaurant which was located at the intersection of Illinois 251 and Route 64, north of Rochelle. The business was destroyed by the April 9th tornado. No one suffered any serious injuries.

Ogle County Sheriff's Police say that McDonald was a patron at the business when the tornado hit. He allegedly stole the money from the cash register.

The local man was arrested by Rochelle police last week on the warrant.

McDonald, who also has a home in Whiting, Indiana,  has been released from jail after he posted 10 percent of the $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on November 6th in Oregon for a hearing.
