Rochelle teen pleads not guilty to felony offense following fatal crash

A Rochelle teen pled not guilty in Ogle County court on Friday after being charged with the Class 4 felony offense of aggravated reckless driving.

The arrest stems from a crash this past summer that claimed the life of a local college student.

19-year old Anna Speed of Kings suffered fatal injuries from the accident.

An Ogle County grand jury has indicted 19-year old Emily Jahnke on the felony offense.

The fatal crash took place the night of June 10th northeast of Creston in the 18,000 block of East Gillis Road.

A 2004 Jeep driven by Jahnke was traveling eastbound and left the north side of the road. The vehicle then struck a utility pole.

Speed was pronounded dead at the scene as she was a back passenger in the jeep.

Jahnke along with a front passenger in the vehicle, 19-year old Anna Craven of Rochelle, were ejected from the jeep. Both were treated for injuries at area hospitals.

In court yesterday, bond was set at $10,000 by an Ogle County judge. Jahnke said she would be able to post 10 percent of that figure and be released.

The teen returns to court on November 24th at 9am for a pre-trial conference.

No other charges have been filed at this time by Ogle County officials.

Jahnke is currently a college student in Kentucky.
