Rochelle teen scheduled to make 1st court appearance today following fatal crash

A Rochelle teen makes her 1st court appearance today in Oregon following a single vehicle crash this past summer that claimed the life of a college student.

19-year old Anna Speed of Kings suffered fatal injuries in the accident.

An Ogle County grand jury has indicted 19-year old Emily Jahnke of Rochelle on the Class 4 felony of aggravated reckless driving.

The fatal crash took place the night of June 10th northeast of Creston in the 18,000 block of East Gillis Road.

A 2004 Jeep driven by Jahnke was traveling eastbound and left the north side of the road. The vehicle then struck a utility pole.

Speed was pronounced dead at the scene as she was a back passenger in the jeep.

Jahnke along with a front passenger in the vehicle, 19-year old Anna Craven of Rochelle, were ejected from the jeep. Both were treated for injuries at area hospitals.

No other charges have been filed at this time by Ogle County officials.

Jahnke is currently a college student in Kentucky.
