RTHS board takes no action on consolidation feasibility study

The Rochelle Township High School board took no action last night on the possibility of a consolidation feasibility study dealing with area school districts.

Last week, the Rochelle elementary board voted in favor of the study while Creston school officials voiced their opposition of this project.

RTHS Superintendent Jamie Craven said they are not looking at any consolidation at this time, but they would like to see some information from a study about the area school districts.

The other feeder school districts which have students attend RTHS include Steward, Eswood, and Kings.

Current fall enrollment at RTHS is 976. That's 19 more teens than last year due to a big freshmen class.

The board also heard a report on repairs needed for the south barn where the buses are located. The project includes renovation work inside and outside the structure along with an addition to the building. The area would include a break room, restrooms, and office space.

Craven expects the bid to be approved in January or February of of next year with the work on the addition to begin in the Spring. Preliminary costs for the project would be around $540,000.

Employment last night included Tim Duncan as assistant girls basketball coach
and Tyler Mollet as assistant speech coach.
