A Rochelle man is dead following a semi truck vs car head on collision just east of Rochelle yesterday afternoon.

The accident took place in the 18 thousand block Route 38, just east of Mulford Road, a short time before 12:15.

Ogle County Sheriff's Police say that Walsh was traveling westbound on Route 38 when his car crossed the centerline of the highway. The vehicle struck the semi tractor trailer head on driven by 57-year old Phil Carothers of Cordova, Tennessee who was eastbound on Route 38.

Carothers was transported by ambulance to Rochelle Community Hospital for treatment of his injuries and then released.

Route 38 was closed for nearly 3 hours yesterday following the accident.

Sheriff Brian VanVickle said that  it appears both drivers were traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision. The speed limit on Route 38 in that area is 55 miles per hour.
