Rochelle officials look to update strategic plan

The Rochelle City Council along with department heads met for nearly 2 1/2 hours last night as they held a strategic planning exercise.

The event was put together by Dr. Alicia Schatteman from NIU in DeKalb as she talked about a strategic plan for the city involving the next 3 to 5 years.

Some of the topics discussed included community development when it comes to new homes and businesses in the downtown area along with an increase in the work force and infrastructure.

The groups also addressed enterprise management and quality of life.

Some of the future threats facing the city includes the state budget, a reduction of the senior population, and property taxes.

City Manager David Plyman said that the city needs to react to some of the items listed last night as the community continues to grow.

No action was taken by city officials during the "Committee of the Whole" meeting last night. The council and staff plan to meet again in November dealing with the strategic plan. A final report will be done by Schatteman which would then be given to the council.
