Former Rochelle Fire Chief would like to see a new station in the near future

Recently retired Rochelle Fire Chief Brian Johnson would like the see some new facilities in the future for the city.

The fire department is currently located in the downtown area across the street from the gazebo and near the post office.

Johnson retired from the fire department last Friday after 34 years as a fireman. During yesterday's program "Let The People", he talked about a new station for the department.

Johnson said the first should be built on the south side of town and then the north end of the community.

The department currently has 13 fill-time firmen along with on-call firefighters.

Interim Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville joined Johnson on the program. He is also in favor of a new fire station for the city on the south side.

A new fire chief is expected to be named within the next 2 or 3 months for Rochelle.

"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and rebroadcast Saturday morning at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday morning at 6 on "The Coyote".
