Rochelle couple plead guilty to drug charges in 2013 case

A Rochelle couple pled guilty in Ogle County court yesterday following a drug arrest at a local business in June of 2013.

The drug bust took place at the Clark Gas Station at Illinois 251 and Carrie Avenue in Rochelle.
Local police seized synthetic cannabinoid with a street value of over $5,000 along with $5,000 in cash.

Rochelle Police Chief Eric Higby said that they had received numerous complaints of drugs being sold from the gas station prior to the arrests.

In court yesterday, 35-year old Yamini Patel pled guilty to the Class 3 felony offense of unlawful possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance with 1,000 feet of a park. The Clark Gas Station is near the Helms Athletic Complex.

Patel was sentenced to 2 1/2 years probation along with paying a street value fee of $5,000 involving the drug. She was also fined $1,000.

The local woman's husband, 36-year old Aadi Patel, also pled guilty to the Class A misdemeanor offense of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He received a sentence of 2 years probation and a $1,000 fine.

The Patels must also pay for all court fees in the case.

Police seized $5,685 from the business during the arrest. That money will also be kept by authorities.

Under the probation sentence, local police can have random searches at the Clark Gas Station to make sure that drugs are not being sold at the business.
