For the 2nd time this month, officials at Nippon Sharyo in Rochelle have announced a temporary layoff of workers at their facility.
Last week, 60 employees were informed that they would be laid off from their assembly shop on November 30th.
Earlier this month, around 100 workers were told about their positions with the company.
The temporary layoffs are a result of complications during the testing phase of one of the company's prototype rail cars. Engineers are currently reviewing the design for Nippon Sharyo before work begins again in this area of the company.
Officials are not sure how long the layoffs will last. The recalls will occur once everything is resolved and production is back on schedule at the plant.
Nippon Sharyo will also provide a severance package for workers who were layed off.
The compnay began operations in 2012 in Rochelle and has around 700 employees. They opened their 3rd plant in June of last year.
Nippon Sharyo builds rail cars. Contracts include Metra in Chicago along with the California Department of Transportation.
