A 22-year old Belvidere man suffered fatal injuries yesterday evening after the car he was driving struck a tree in rural Oregon.
The crash took place a short time after 6 in the 5,000 block of south Route 2.
Reports indicate that the Belvidere man, whose name has not been released by Ogle County Sheriff's Police until family members are notified, was southbound on Route 2 and attempted to pass another vehicle.
The driver lost control of the car when pulling back into the soundbound lane as the vehicle skidded into the west ditch and then struck a tree.
The 22-year old was transported by ambulance to KSB Hospital in Dixon where he was pronounded dead. Police say that it appears that there were no signs of alcohol involvment in the accident and the man was wearing a seatbelt.
The Oregon Fire Department along with Illinois State Police and the Illinois Conservation Police assisted sheriff's deputies at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
