Steward man arrested on drug charges

Lee County Sheriff's Police arrested a Steward man yesterday after they found more than 70 marijuana plants growing in his basement and in a nearby field.

23-year old Taylor Myler has been arrested on the felony offense of growing cannabis, unlawful possession of 500 to 2,000 grams of marijuana, and obstructing justice. He was also charged with the misdemeanor offense of unlawful possession of a weapon without a FOID card.

The investigation began when Lee County Sheriff's Police and the Dixon Police Department found a large patch of marijuana in the middle of a cornfield in the 31 hundred block of Reynolds Road yesterday morning. Myler apparently approached the officers in the field and later admitted the plants were his.

Police then spotted more cannabis plants in his home. At that time, Myler ran inside the residence and locked the door. He came out of the home a short time later.

The growing operation was found in the basement of the home.

Police seized around 72 cannabis plants in various stages and a shotgun.

Bond has been set at $75,000 for Myler. He was given a court date of October 7th in Lee County.

The investigation continues in the case as additional charges may be filed by Lee County officials.
