Rochelle City Manager Dave Plyman has named Lieutenant Dave Sawlsville as the interim fire chief.
Sawlsville, who has been with the department for 34 years, 28 years as a full-time fireman, was also named interim chief when current Fire Chief Brian Johnson recovered from a stroke.
Johnson announced last week he is retiring from the fire department following 34 years. His last day as chief will be this Friday.
Plyman met with all 3 Lieutenants this morning to talk about the position. The other Lieutenants are Dan Miller and Jason Underwood. Sawlsville is the senior Lieutenant of the department.
Plyman said that he plans to advertise the position and then interview the top candidates. He hopes to have a new Fire Chief working for the city within 2 to 3 months.
