Rochelle park officials hear concerns about the deer population at Skare Park

Park officials in Rochelle talked about the deer population again last night at Skare Park as several residents who live in the area remain concerned.
Some felt the numbers have increased while others believe the population of deer have declined since the tornado last April.

Park District Executive Director Eric Christensen said it's hard to tell right now if there are more deer at Skare Park.

Park officials plan to talk with the Byron Forest Preserve in the near future since they have a bow hunting season for deer. Christensen said that would close Skare Park for a period of time if they do any deer hunting in the future.

Michael Cruz was appointed as the new Commissioner to the board. His term is for 2 years.

Park officials heard a Pump Track presentation. It's a looping track used by kids on a skate board, bikes, scooters, and roller blades. The cost will be just under $34,000 and could be located on the northeast section of the tennis courts.

No action was taken by the board last night.

Up to $20,000 will be used to help clean up Skare Park from the tornado. This includes fallen trees.

The Rochelle Junior Tackle Football program is also looking at using the locker room area at the Helms Athletic Complex stadium for storage in the future. Some lockers may be removed and possibly sold to area residents.

Park officials met in executive session to talk about personnel and the lease of land. No action was taken.
