Professors at Rock Valley College in Rockford are on strike today after an agreement could not be reached on a new contract on Tuesday.
Negotiating teams from the teacher's union and the college along with a federal mediator met for 8 hours yesterday. The College Board of Trustees declared an impasse without responding to the latest proposal from the union.
Key issues in the negotiations include salary and cost of health insurance.
160 teachers belong to the union. They plan to picket all 3 entrances today at Rock Valley College.
Both sides will meet again on Friday.
College officials have suspended credit classes for the present time.
