The Rochelle elementary board approved the new fiscal year budget last night as the district is looking at a deficit of 3 million dollars. This includes nearly $800,000 in the education fund.
Superintendent Todd Prusator said that the deficit includes the 2.2 million dollar geothermal project at Central School as the district used health-life safety funds. He said the problem also includes the lack of state aid and the EAV decreasing.
School districts around Illinois will not know what their state aid figure will be until a budget is approved in Springfield by lawmakers.
Enrollment in the district at the present time is 1,525 students. That is 53 children less than a year ago.
The AYSO program will have a new home next year. The soccer matches will be played at fields near Lincoln School.
Prusator said they plan to use the west field in the spring and south field in the fall.
The fields will be aerated and seeded in the future. AYSO also plans to have portable bathroom facilities and a possible storage building.
The private school student extra-curricular participation policy is expected to be approved by the board during the October board meeting. 1 home school student is currently participating in the district's cross country program.
