For the 1st time in 45 years, city officials in Rochelle approved a new roof at the fire station along with an upgrade in their heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
The bid for the roof work came in at $114,650. That's higher than the estimated cost of $73,500. Rochelle Fire Chief Brian Johnson was surprised with the figure as they only received 2 bids for the project.
The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system had a price tag of $35,290 which was $11,000 higher than what was budgeted.
The work at the fire station will be completed by the end of the year.
The council approved an agreement with Mighty Vine for a specially ordered transformer involving their greenhouse. The company will reimburse RMU $266,340 over a 4 year period.
City officials also approved a switch gear project at the Caron Road substation at a total cost of just over $116,000. Electric Operations Superintendent Jason Bird said that safety was a key issue in the work being done.
The council met in executive session to talk about personnel and the sale or lease of property. No action was taken.
