Village officials in Hillcrest approved a 1.2 million dollar contract last night dealing with construction of a sanitary sewer system for the community. The 1st phase of the project will be done on River Road and Ramona Avenue.

The vote was 4-2 in favor of the proposal. Voting against the project were trustees Tim Ball and Randy Salsbury.

Hillcrest will receive $575,000 in grant money for the work.

Engineer Jim Sparber from Baxter and Woodman in DeKalb said that the underground work on the street will be done this fall. The project should be completed in the spring of 2016

The new fiscal year appropriation was approved at just under $608,770. It's about $1,000 less than a year ago.

After hearing 4 proposals last night, the village plans to work out a contract with Northern Illinois Disposal for solid waste service. The company has been with the village for over 45 years.

Their proposal included a $9.75 monthly fee and $2.50 per month for curbside recycling. It was a 7-year contract. Voting against the proposal were Trustees Tim Ball and Rich Elliott. Jason Fore abstained.

In a 3-2 vote, the board rejected the attorney fees for Paul Keller. The yearly salary was $48,000. This did not include the fees for court appearances involving the village. One trustee abstained in his vote.

Building Inspector Casper Manheim said that PharmaCannis is about 2 months away from completing their cultivating medical cannabis facility at the corner of Twombly and Dement Roads. They would receive a state license once 1 of the rooms is ready to grow marijuana.

Following an executive session, the village plans to advertise for a part-time maintenance man. The individual would received $15 an hour and work no more than 20 hours a week.
