Community prayer vigil held Sunday for Stillman Valley teen

A community prayer vigil was held at a Stillman Valley church yesterday in the death of a 17-year old girl who was killed Friday afternoon in a car vs pick-up truck crash just south of Davis Junction.

Pronounced dead at a Rockford Hospital was Emily Fleming.

Fleming along with 2 other girls, all cheerleaders at Stillman Valley High School, were in a car when the accident took place at the intersection of Illinois 251 and Big Mound Road. The vehicle collided with a pick-up truck traveling southbound on Illinois 251. The truck then started on fire in a field.

64-year old Andy Conderman of Amboy, the driver of the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ogle County Sheriff's Police and the Coroner have not announced a positive identification of Conderman at this time. Reports indicate that he was driving the truck from family members.

Ogle County officials have talked with the family members since the accident.

The 2 other girls in the car received treatment for what appears non-life threatening injuries at a Rockford Hospital.

Reports indicate that the car failed to stop on Big Mound Road prior to the collision with the truck. There are only stop signs on Big Mound Road.

Flowers along with a memorial cross have also be placed at the site of the crash for Emily Fleming along with Andy Conderman.

Counselors from the area were at Stillman Valley High School on Saturday to help students and staff. They will also be in the building on Tuesday.

Sporting events have been postponed until after Fleming's funeral.
