2 people are dead, which includes a 17-year old cheerleader from Stillman Valley High School, following a car vs pick-up truck crash just south of Davis Junction yesterday afternoon.
The man driving the pick-up truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The teen died at a Rockford Hospital.
The accident took place at around 5 at the intersection of Illinois 251 and Big Mound Road.
Police say that the truck was traveling southbound on Illinois 251 when it collided with the car which had 3 cheerleaders from Stillman Valley High School. 2 of the girls were transported by helicopter to a Rockford Hospital while the 3rd was taken by ambulance.
The condition of the other 2 girls is unavailable at this time.
Sheriff's police say that it appears the car the girls were traveling in failed to stop at the intersection. There are only stop signs on Big Mound Road.
The pick-up truck ended up in a field and fully engulfed in flames when emergency personnel arrived on the scene.
The car the studets were in came to rest in a soybean field.
A position identification of the male driver of the pick-up truck will be made next week by Ogle County officials. Family members have been contacted by authorities.
School officials say that the 3 girls were upper-class students at the high school.
The accident took place just prior to the football game between Stillman Valley and Richmond-Burton. The varsity game was postponed when school officials learned about the incident.
Staff and group counseling will be available at the school today between 1 and 4 for students.
