Officials at Nippon Sharyo in Rochelle have announced a temporary layoff of around 100 workers at their plant.
The jobs would be in the fabrication and welding shops.
The layoffs were a result of complications during the testing phase of one of the company's prototype rail cars. Engineers are currently reviewing the design for Nippon Sharyo before work begins again in this area of the company.
Officials say that they do not know how long the layoffs will be. They have implemented a policy regarding the recall of employees. The recalls will occur once everything is resolved and production is back on schedule at the plant.
The company will also provide a severance package for the workers who were layed off.
Nippon Sharyo began operations in 2012 in Rochelle and has around 700 employees. They opened their 3rd plant in June of last year.
The company builds rail cars. Contracts include Metra in Chicago along with the California Department of Transportaion.
