The search to find the three suspects believed to have shot and killed a Northern Illinois police officer continues but with a different approach. George Filenko of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force says a smaller group of investigators are following leads and canvassing a larger area in Fox Lake where Lieutenant Charles Joseph Gliniewicz was gunned down Tuesday morning in the line of duty. The original manhunt lasted 14-hours after the shooting and included around 400 police officers.
Hundreds gathered last night at Lakefront Park in Fox Lake to remember 30-year veteran Lieutenant Charles Joseph Gliniewicz. The father of four was killed Tuesday morning while responding to a suspicious persons call. Gliniewicz's wife, Melodie, gave an emotional speech to the crowd, calling her husband the love of her life and a wonderful father.
A Vernon Hills woman is facing charges after police say she made up a phony story that led to a massive police search only miles from where a Fox Lake Police Officer was gunned down. The Lake County Sheriff's office says Kristin Kiefer reported last night that two men ran into a cornfield after trying to steal her car near the area of Route 12 and 120 in Volo, Illinois.
The call prompted a huge response from authorities that included around 85 law enforcement officials. The sheriff's office says Kiefer admitted to fabricating the story because she wanted the attention of a family she works for as a nanny.
