Without a state budget, there's simply no money to pay some of the state's conservation officers. KHQA TV has the story of 33 layoffs at the Department of Natural Resource's Conservation Police. DNR says the layoffs will be temporary, but until the state reaches a budget deal their hands are tied.
The officers say about one-third of Illinois will now be without anyone watching for poachers or enforcing wildlife regulations.
