Aubrey Headon and her mother Cass
15-year old Aubrey Headon of Rochelle received recognition yesterday evening from the Ogle County Board for her recent participation in the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto.
Aubrey finished in 6th place in both the 100 and 200 meter T-38 Divisions last week.
The county board approved a resolution proclaiming October 14th as "Aubrey Headon Day" in Ogle County.
Aubrey said that she was surprised about the resolution from Ogle County officials. She said her experience in Toronto will always be remembered as she met many athletes from different countries.
Headon was 1 of 20 women to be part of Team USA on the track and field squad.
Aubrey's father, Lance Headon, also appreciated the recognition his daughter received from the county board.
He was also surprised about the special day for his daughter.
Lance said they have received tremendous support from family, friends, and the entire Rochelle community involving Aubrey and her different track events.
October 14th is also a special date for Aubrey. She dedicated her run in London last year to U.S Marine Lance Corporal Alec Catherwood of Byron who was killed in action that date in 2010 while in Afghanistan.
Headon is a Freshman this fall at Rochelle Township High School. Aubrey plans to take several weeks off of training as she is a manager with the RTHS football team.
