Rochelle park officials approve new appropriation

Park officials in Rochelle approved their new fiscal year appropriation last night that totaled 2.7 million dollars. The figure is 10 percent higher than the budget they will work with.

The appropriation is 2 percent higher than a year ago. Park District Executive Director Eric Christensen said that the majority of increase came from the bond levy.

Top projects include the bike path project at Cooper Park and an additional 9 holes for the disc golf course at Skare Park.

The board met in executive session for around 35 minutes to talk about the union contract. No action was taken.

An amendment to the bike path extension from 20th street to Beebe Drive was approved. The engineering fee increased by $49,000 to $150,000. Construction costs are expected to total around a half million dollars.

Christensen does not expect work to behind to extend the bike path until sometime next year.

No action was taken on the Flagg Township Museum contract. The original 5-year deal involves $25,000 each year for the museum.

The building is owed by the city.

The spring lake swimming pool closed on Sunday. The "Pooch Plunge" for area dogs will be this Thursday at the pool from 5:15 until 7. The cost is $5 per dog.
