City officials in Rochelle are looking at the possibility of a 2nd solar plant in the near future.
In a 7-0 vote last night, the Rochelle Planning and Zoning Commission recommended to the city council a special use permit for the project at the landfill.
Dan Westin from RMU said that this solar plant would be similiar to the one located near the water and wastewater treatment plant in the Hub City.
The solar plant would be located near the birm along Creston Road. The area would not be used for future expansion at the landfill.
Westin said there are several benefits for the city dealing with a 2nd solar plant.
3 companies have shown interests in the project. Westin said that it would not be completed until sometime in 2016 if the solar plant proposal moves forward.
